JAMMU, Jan 15: In a nail-biting finish, Team-C clinched a 2-wicket victory over Team-A in the Senior Women’s One-Day Challenger Trophy, held at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Chitra Singh Jamwal’s crucial knock, combined with skipper Sneh Rana’s steady innings, played a significant role in their team’s triumph.
Team-A, after being sent to bat first, posted a respectable total of 239 runs in their allotted 50 overs, losing all their wickets. MG Magre led the charge with a top score of 75 off 75 balls, including 6 fours and a six. Contributions from Dhara Gujjar (34), Shafali Verma (26), and Shipra Giri (23) bolstered the team’s total.
KP Choudhary and Prema shone with the ball for Team-C, each taking four wickets, while Sneh Rana took one wicket.
In pursuit of the target, Team-C’s innings was anchored by D Vrinda, who top-scored with a quick 71 off 65 balls, decorated with 10 boundaries. Henretta Pereira added a valuable 40, and Riya Chaudhari chipped in with 32 runs. The defining moment came with a crucial 57-run partnership between Chitra Singh Jamwal and Sneh Rana. Chitra scored 25 off 34 balls, including 2 fours, while Sneh Rana remained unbeaten on 25, guiding Team-C to victory in the final over.
For Team-A, Sonia Mendhiya was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets, while Arundathi Reddy took one.
Team-C’s victory was marked by resilience and a composed chase, highlighted by the vital contributions from Chitra and Rana.
