Bangalore, July 15: Playere have started arriving for a month long preparatory Camp for Senior Indian Hockey Men’s Team in preparation for Asia Cup at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Southern Center here from tomorrow.
SAI incharge of the Camp M H Kumar said, ” we are well prepared for the Camp to begin tomorrow and go on upto August 16, the turf has been cleaned up and accommodation is no problem.”
When asked about the turf condition in particular as former Coach Micheal Nobbs had complained about damage and authorities had shifted the camp to Patna three years back, Mr Kumar said “we have cleaned the turf and there is no accommodation problem since Hostels with airconditioned and non-airconditioned rooms are avaialbe and water is also sufficiently available for watering the turf.”
About rain which may pose problem for the camp, he said the Coaches will have the timings adjusted and the rain water also help in cleaning the turf. “We have cut off the branches whose leaves were falling on the turf and stage is all set for the camp,’ he added.
The Ninth edition of the Asia Cup will be held in Malaysia from August 24 to September 1. This tournament is very important for the Indian team since it is the last chance to get qualified for the FIH World Cup to be held at Hague, Netherlands from May 31 to June 15 next year. (UNI)
