JAMMU, Nov 21: With the generous sponsorship of the Delhi based Global Indian International School, the Army Goodwill School, Potha in Surankote got a School Bus, here.
Lt Gen D S Hooda AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps attended the dedication ceremony of a School Bus to the Army Goodwill School.
It was a historic day for the School, when a yellow coloured school bus moved out of the school compound carrying 40 children singing patriotic song amongst a large gathering of parents, teachers, opinion makers and residents of Surankote valley.
For the management committee, parents, teachers and students of this school, it was a dream come true.
The Army Goodwill School was established in Potha in 2003 during the height of militancy, when the education system in Surankote Valley had come toward a grinding halt due to the fear of the gun. Since the beginning of the school in 2003, the Army trucks were plying as school buses and this arrangement continued till 2012. However in 2013, as a measure to make the school self reliant, a decision was taken to stop the Army buses and civil buses were hired as school transport which caused financial hardship to parents and students.
The Global Indian International School (GIIS), a world renowned chain of schools in many Asian countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Bhutan, India and UAE was contacted by the school management and it decided to sponsor a school bus to enable Army Goodwill School, Potha overcome its difficulties.
