BHADERWAH, July 13: The picturesque town of Bhaderwah hosted the Blind Cricket Tournament, a three-day event celebrating inclusive sports and the spirit of visually impaired athletes. Held from July 11 to 13 at the Sports Stadium of Government Degree College, the tournament showcased extraordinary talent, coordination, and passion for the game.
Organized by the Cricket Blind Association J&K in collaboration with the District Administration Doda, Bhaderwah Development Authority (BDA) and the Social Welfare Department, the tournament aimed to empower specially-abled athletes and promote inclusivity in sports.
The event was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhaderwah, Sunil Kumar Bhutyal, who reiterated the administration’s support for specially-abled individuals. The opening match between the Blue and Red teams set the tone, with the Blue team emerging victorious.
Throughout the tournament, players impressed spectators with their skillful batting, strategic fielding, and unwavering spirit. In a message, DC Doda Harvinder Singh lauded the players’ performance, stating, “This tournament is a reminder that disability is not inability.”
The event concluded with the distribution of trophies and certificates, and a strong commitment from organizers to hold similar events annually-fostering sportsmanship, unity, and inclusion across the region.
