Bismil honoured with Life Time Achievement award

Rajouri, Jan 28: Khurshid Bismil, an acclaimed poet and author of Jammu and Kashmir was honoured with Life Time Achievement award on 75th Republic Day function held at Thannamandi by Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Shafiq Ahmed Mir. He was awarded for his contribution in the socio, educational and literary field.
Bismil hailed from Thannamandi and was born in the turbulent times of partition. He had his early education in the town and graduated from Degree College Poonch through distance mode. Later he did his B.Ed from M.E.T Sopore and M.Ed from Jammu University.
He opened a school in the town in the year 1976 under the name Muslim Educational Trust, Baba Ghulam Shah Academy, Thanamandi which was the first educational institution of its kind in the Pir Panchal Region.
Later, the educational movement gave the slogan of establishing Baba Ghulam Shah University which came into reality in the year 2003. Bismil was earlier honoured by various prestigious institutions in recognition of his best yeoman’s services rendered in the region including American Biographical Institute.
