Bhanu Partap selected for 17th World Wushu C’ship

JAMMU, Aug 31: Surya Bhanu Partap Singh, the lone athlete from Jammu & Kashmir, has been selected in the 20-member Indian Wushu team for the 17th World Wushu Championship scheduled in Brazil from August 30 to September 8. This is Bhanu Partap’s third appearance at the World Championship, having previously won bronze medals in both earlier editions. This year, he will compete in the below 65 kg weight category and aims to improve his medal standing.
Bhanu Partap recently completed a rigorous 45-day national coaching camp at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala. He has also been shortlisted among the top eight probables in his weight category for the 20th Asian Games in Japan next year. Notably, he is the first-ever medalist from Jammu & Kashmir in the Asian Games and has an impressive medal haul, including podium finishes at the World Cup, Moscow Wushu Stars, PARS Cup and a gold medal at the National Games in Uttarakhand.
The Indian Wushu team left for Brazil early this morning with hopes of surpassing previous performances. President of Wushu Association of India Vijay Saraf, Vice President Ranjeet Kalra, General Secretary Bhavneet, and Treasurer Sohit Sharma extended their congratulations and best wishes to Bhanu Partap. Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo and Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul also congratulated him, expressing confidence in his continued success and India’s strong showing at the Championship.
