Bengal thrashes J&K by 6 wkts

JAMMU, Sept 20: Bengal thrashed Jammu and Kashmir by 6 wickets in Elite Group-C Vijay Hazare Trophy match at Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering Ground, Chennai.
Put into bat, Jammu and Kashmir scored a paltry total of 96 runs in a rain-curtailed 25-over match. All the batsmen failed to score runs and it was speedster Mohammad Mudhasir who top scored with brisk 21 runs. Paras Sharma and Shubham Khajuria contributed 17 and 10 runs to the total. For Bengal, Prayas Burman scalped 4 wickets, while Ishan Porel claimed three.
In reply, Bengal chased the target in 20.4 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets. Shrevats Goswami (22), Vivek Singh (20) and Manoj Tiwari (19) were the main scorers. For J&K, Irfan Pathan, Waseem Raza and Shubham Khajuria claimed one wicket each.
Meanwhile, a galaxy of former Ranji Trophy players has raised questions on the composition of the playing XI. However, the Team Management defended its decision, saying that it played the team on merit.
