SRINAGAR, Jan 3: An enthusiastic Palhallan girl is among two others who have been selected from North Kashmir’s Baramulla district to participate in the 28th National Road Cycling Championship scheduled to be held in Karnataka.
Mehak Mushtaq (22) is the only girl from Baramulla district, who has been selected for the National Championship. The selection was done during the trials conducted by the Cycling Association of J&K, while two boys from the district have also figured in the list, set to participate in the event from January 9 to 12.
While Mehak falls into the senior category, there are four other girls in the junior category who have been selected for the Championship and are currently busy with the necessary preparations ahead of the event.
While talking to Excelsior, Mehak expressed her joy and happiness, stating that participation in the national-level event will surely lead to her growth in the sport and help her to achieve new heights.
“I have been cycling since my childhood and have participated in various events. I am happy that I have been selected along with four other girls, making me the only girl from Baramulla to be selected for the event along with two boys,” she said.
Mehak, who is in her final year of graduation, said she had participated in a number of events at the district and State levels and also won medals, “Now, this is my opportunity to showcase my skills at the national level; the performance there will take me on a different path.”
In her message to the youth, Mehak said that there is a need for consistency and determination, which, she said, will ultimately lead to success.
The others cyclists who have been selected during the trials to participate in the event from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir were Under 14 (Boys); Ikhlak Hussain (1st place), Haseeb Jan (2nd place), Azan Ali (3rd place), and Arindham Ravi (4th place). In Sub-Junior; Jahangir (1st place), Sahil Manzoor (2nd place), Zulfiqar Guzanfar (3rd place), Manik Magotra (4th place), and Arindham Ravi (5th place).
In the junior category; Adnan (1st place), Parvaiz Ahmad (2nd place), Ahmed (1st place), and Muhammad Saleem Sheikh (2nd place). Women Section, Sub-Junior girls; 1st place – Yamuna and 2nd place – Farrah. Junior Girls; Sohilha. Elite Girls: Mehak Mushtaq and Humaira Khursheed. Under-23; Adil Altaf (1st place) and Mashooq Maqbool (2nd place) and in Men Senior; Waheed.
