Atleast 10-15 medals at Rio: IOA

NEW DELHI, June 29: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) today exuded confidence that it will win at least 10-15 medals in the upcoming Rio Olympics in August.

          IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta during an event said here today that “this time more than 100 atheletes will participate for the Olympics and we are confident of bagging at least 10-15 medals.”

                      When asked about the medal prospect in individual game, Mehta confidently said “in Badminton, Saina Nehwal, shooting Jitu Rai, Boxing Vikas Krishnan  Yadav, shooting contigent, wrestling, tennis doubles and men’s hockey are the event in which we can win medals.”

         The Indian contingent for the Rio has reached 102, but still golf , swimming , and relay team will have to qualify reaching the mark of more than 110.

          Meanwhile, IOA Joint secretary Rakesh Gupta, while being associated with Amul who is the title sponsor for the atheletes at Rio, said “I cannot guarantee about the number of medals, but can assure better than London Olympics.”

          When asked about requirement of 8-member coaching staff for Hockey at Rio, Mehta said not only to hockey, we will provide necessary staff for other sporting event also. Meanwhile, due to fear of Zika virus at Rio top atheletes around the world are not participating, but the IOA  today claimed that all Indian atheletes are participating and till date no one has withdrawn out of the game.  (UNI)
