JAMMU, Dec 4: The three-day Asmita Wushu City League and District Jammu Wushu Championship commenced at Indoor Hall, Bhagwati Nagar, here today with around 500 athletes from various schools and clubs participating.
The Asmita Wushu League, a dedicated platform for women athletes, has significantly boosted female participation and performance in the sport, contributing to India’s growing international reputation. Over the next two days, all women divisions will compete, with selected athletes qualifying for zonal and national league championships, where medal winners will also receive cash incentives. The District Jammu Championship will conclude on December 6.
The event was inaugurated by Vijay Saraf, President, Wushu Association of J&K, who congratulated participants and praised the organising committee for providing a valuable platform for budding athletes. He highlighted J&K athletes’ outstanding performances at national and international events, noting 10 players shortlisted among the top 8 for the upcoming Asian Games.
Prominent personalities present included Kamal Kishore, Ajay Paul Gill, Surya Bhanu Partap Singh, Arun, Lalit Singh and other office-bearers of the association.
In the Under-7 Girls category, Amayra Rakwal and Mishti Mehra emerged as winners in the below 18 kg and 20 kg divisions respectively, with Saayash Majotra and Priyanshi Gupta securing second place.
