SRINAGAR, Sept 16: The Asmita Women’s Wushu League 2025 was formally inaugurated today at the Indoor Stadium, Polo Ground, Srinagar, marking a major step towards empowering young female athletes in Jammu & Kashmir. The two-day league will run from September 16 to 17, drawing participation from over 600 players representing all districts of Kashmir, alongside athletes from three Khelo India Centres and one PMDP Centre.
The opening ceremony was graced by Kuldeep Handoo, chief coach of India and India’s first Dronacharya Awardee in Wushu, as the chief guest. Ranjeet Singh, International Footballer, attended as guest of honour. Key office bearers of the Wushu Association of J&K Mohammed Maqsood Rather (Joint Secretary), Ajaz (KIC Coach), Rameez Ahmad (PMDP Coach) and Irfan Ahmad Wani—were also present.
Handoo applauded the athletes’ commitment, urged them to stay disciplined and focused, and assured them of continued support and high-quality coaching. The event witnessed enthusiastic support from parents, teachers, and well-wishers. The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mohammed Maqsood Rather.
