Asmita Khelo India City League concludes in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Sept 8: The Asmita Khelo India City League concluded today with electrifying energy at the Synthetic Rugby Field, Polo Ground, Srinagar, bringing together 22 spirited teams from across Jammu & Kashmir. The tournament showcased exceptional skill, teamwork and determination from young women athletes, reflecting the rising popularity of Rugby in the region.
The event was graced by Abhinav Sharma, Deputy Director, Sports Authority of India (SAI), as chief guest. Guests of honour included Zulfiqar Ahmad, SAI Coach; Mohd Shafi, Secretary General, J&K Rugby; Irfan Aziz Botta, chief coach J&K Rugby; and international Rugby star Aadil Manzoor.
In the Under-15 Girls category, Baramulla claimed the Gold, while Kupwara took home the Silver. In the Under-18 Girls division, Srinagar clinched Gold, with Bandipora finishing second. The Senior Women’s final saw a dominant performance by Srinagar, who secured Gold, while Pulwama earned the Silver after a hard-fought match.
Chief guest Abhinav Sharma commended the athletes, saying, “These girls are breaking barriers. The future of women’s sports in J&K is unstoppable.” Players echoed similar sentiments, calling the league a symbol of empowerment and opportunity. With support from Khelo India, Asmita and Rugby India, the league highlighted the growing impact of women in sports and laid a strong foundation for future talent from Jammu & Kashmir to rise to national and international levels.
