JAMMU, Aug 17: Arshiya won the J&K UT U-13 Girls Chess Championship held at Nek Hotel, Jammu, which concluded today. Fatima Zoha secured second place, Shifa Sajjad finished third, while Neomika claimed the fourth position. These top four players will represent Jammu and Kashmir in the forthcoming U-13 National Chess Championship. The event witnessed participation from the best young talents selected from both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
The championship was organized by the All J&K Chess Association under the aegis of the J&K Sports Council. Bindu Pathania officiated as Chief Arbiter, supported by assistant arbiters Stuti Gupta and Ritish. The tournament provided a competitive platform for budding chess players to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience at the state level.
Simultaneously, the J&K UT Open Senior Chess Championship is underway at the same venue, featuring 30 elite players. This includes 10 selected participants each from Jammu and Kashmir divisions, along with 4 seeded players and 6 wild card entries. Leading the senior event after the initial rounds are Pazhany Kohli, Sumit Grover, SP Sharma and Aarav Gupta. The senior championship follows a 7-round Swiss system format. The top four finishers will earn the opportunity to represent Jammu and Kashmir at the upcoming Senior National Chess Championship.
