SRINAGAR, June 15: After the success of Spring Festival, the Tourism Department is organizing weeklong Summer Festival from June 21, 2014. Different sports, adventure and cultural activities including Flat and White water Rafting, Mountain Running, Paragliding, Trekking, Shikarathon, Water sports, Half Marathon, Triathlon, Sport Climbing, Cyclothon, etc.
Besides, the Jewellery show, cultural programme by Hans Raj Hans and some other programmes at Kashmir Haat etc would be conducted at different places in the Valley. The festival is dedicated to adventure tourism.
The Adventure Call Tours and Travels and Kashmir Adventures have been entrusted the responsibility of holding a two day long Flat Water Rafting Championship on the waters of river Jhelum in Srinagar. Ten teams from different organizations and clubs are taking part in the Championship. Director (Operations) Adventure Call, Muhammad Yusuf informed that Flat water championship is being organized first time in the State.
Director Tourism, Talat Parvez said that the championship will be held with an aim to restore the glory of water bodies particularly Jhelum where many such regattas used to be conducted in the past.
He said, the Mountain Running Championship would be conducted in Srinagar and Dudhpathri on June 22 and June 26 respectively.
The J&K Mountain Running Association (JKMRA) has been entrusted the responsibility of holding these two prestigious championships.
