RAMBAN, Nov 6: The Indian Army has launched the “Captain Atul Somra Cricket Cup 2024” to promote physical fitness and sportsmanship among the youth in Banihal.
The tournament, which runs from November 6 to 16, is being held at the newly constructed Cricket Ground in Bankot, dedicated by the civil administration for the region’s youth.
A total of 32 teams from across Ramban District have registered to compete in this exciting event. The inaugural match, held today, featured M&M Fagow Warriors against Doligam Strikers.
The event was inaugurated by key dignitaries, including SDM Banihal Rizwan Asgar, SDPO Banihal Manjeet Singh, SHO Banihal Ashiq Bukari, BMO Dr. Syeed Ismail, and local leaders. The tournament has generated significant enthusiasm, especially among the youth in the remote villages of Ramban, with media coverage boosting excitement.
The Indian Army’s initiative, in collaboration with the civil administration, aims to nurture local talent and provide opportunities for youth development through sports.
