LEH, June 25: In a tribute to the valour of Kargil War heroes, Army today flagged off a high-altitude mountaineering expedition to Mount Kang Yatse I (6400 m) and Mount Kang Yatse II (6200 m) in the Zanskar Ranges of Ladakh. The expedition is part of the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations and held between June 25 to July 3.
The expedition was flagged off by Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps, from Leh. A team of over 25 trained Army personnel will be undertaking the challenging climb to these renowned peaks, with Mount Kang Yatse I often considered a preparatory ascent for Mount Everest due to its technical difficulty.
The expedition team has undergone a month-long intensive physical and technical training regimen under experienced mountaineering instructors. This initiative not only aims to honour the memory of the Kargil martyrs but also underscores the Army’s commitment to physical excellence and operational readiness.
