JAMMU, Dec 4: Army Public School Rakhmuthi today observed the birth anniversary of its School Hero, Major Devinderjit Singh Pannu, with reverence and patriotic spirit. Major Pannu of the 5 Sikh Regiment sacrificed his life during the defence of Chhamb on December 5, 1971, and was posthumously honoured with the Vir Chakra for his exceptional bravery.
The event began with a candle-lighting and garlanding ceremony, followed by a presentation on the heroic legacy of Major Pannu. Students paid tribute through a patriotic group song and a colourful dance performance. A major highlight was the awarding of scholarships worth Rs 12,000 each by Col NJS Pannu (Retd.) to four meritorious students-Arzoo Magotra, Anjali Bral, Palak Choudhary and Ridhima Choudhary. Toppers of Classes X and XII were also felicitated.
The chief guest encouraged students to uphold values of courage and integrity. The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem, leaving attendees inspired by Major Pannu’s legacy.
