JAMMU, Aug 25: Earth Week with a name ‘My Earth My Duty’ was celebrated in a series of events by Army Public School, Jammu Cantt from August 21 to August 25, 2012, to raise awareness of the need to take proactive environmental measures.
The occasion was organized as the medium for the young talents to intellectually air their thoughts with freedom to express and practice appreciation for this sphere, we call as home.
On the first day all the students from classes I to XII participated in Painting Activity.
The topics given to them were ‘Save Earth’, ‘Making Earth Green Again’, ‘Go Green’ and ‘My Earth My Duty’.
They expressed their appreciation and understanding to tackle the ecological problem through their paintings.
Story telling Activity for the students of classes I to V and story Writing Activity of classes VI to XII were organized on the second day of Earth week.
The students showed their creativity focusing mainly on the sustainable growth of all the living beings in their natural habitats.
Third day was marked by Collage Making and Placard Making Activity. Great interest and concern about the accelerating deterioration of the environment and its natural resources was expressed by the students.
The fourth day was celebrated as ‘Plantation Day’. Anu Jandial, Principal, APS Jammu Cantt initiated the event by planting a medicinal sapling in the premises of the school to promote the idea that it is every individual’s responsibility to support the maintenance of proper ecological balance. Each set of class was assigned to bring a sapling.
Finally, a green rally was taken out by all the students of classes I to VIII. They marched around the School and to the nearby residential areas. The students expressed their enthusiasm and concern by shouting slogans “Go Green, Save Earth” and by holding placards high in their hands making everyone aware of the environment and believe that if we neglect it, the world as a whole will suffer.
