Chandigarh, Oct 29:
Six prominent sports personalities, including three Haryana MLAs, have appealed to the electors to elect the candidate with clean image in the elections to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) scheduled to be held on November 25.
The appeal was made in a signed statement issued here today by Anand Singh Dangi, MLA and President, Haryana Athletics Association, Dharam Bir Singh, MLA and President, Haryana Swimming Association, Rao Dan Singh MLA and Working President, Haryana Football Association, Ravinder Singh, President, Haryana Basketball Association, Ashok Mehta, President, Haryana Kabaddi (Circle) Association and Sandeep Singh, President, Haryana Kabaddi (NS) Association.
‘We sports lovers today fervently appeal at this historic moment to the electorate to exercise their franchise with a sense of responsibility so that sports and youth affairs are handled by able and conscientious persons who can give a sense of direction and motivate the youth of this country,’ they said.
Referring to the projected current national scenario of graft/sleaze occupying centre stage, they said that it wass being widely debated upon but not discussed.
‘The Commonwealth Games held in the recent past in India created a furore with its related alleged scams tumbling out days thereafter. In the backdrop of this
depressing scenario the forthcoming elections of the office bearers of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) give us an opportunity to think, act and cleanse the system by electing people who are men of proven integrity, vision and dedication,’ they said. (UNI)
