JAMMU, Mar 7: Dogra College of Education inaugurated its week long Annual Sports Meet today.
On the occasion, Samar Dev Charak, secretary, Dogra Educational Trust was the chief guest who declared the 20th Annual Sports Meet open in the College premises.
During the inaugural ceremony few exhibition matches were played which included Kho Kho Match, Three Leg Race, Sack Race, Matka Race , One Leg Race, 100 mt Race and and Tug of War for Girls.
The week long Sports Meet will have sports competitions like Volley ball, Badminton, Athletics, Shot Put, Kho Kho, Table Tennis, Carom and Chess etc.
Speaking on the occasion, it is was stressed by the chief guest that apart from imparting academic knowledge to the students, various physical activities must also be encouraged for their overall development.
Earlier the Programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp followed by the welcome address by Shefali Sharma, vice Principal of the College. She emphasized that sports could play a major role in promoting and propagating peace with an understanding of the spirit of global participation and philosophy of sports.
Prominent among those who attended the function were Prof B D Damral Director cum Principal of Dogra College of Education, S L Kotwal Principal DIETT Bela Thakur, Academic co-coordinator of the College.
The whole programme was organized under the able guidance of Sumer Singh Sambyal, Convener Sports Committee and Yogesh Manhas Sports Officer, Dogra Educational Trust.
At the end, Vote of Thanks was moved by Shamsher Singh, Member Sports Committee.
