Anantnag climbers shine in Climbing C’ship

JAMMU, Mar 26: Anantnag climbers including Faizan Ahmad Khan, Mohd Ridhwan and Ityas Ahmad won top three medals respectively in mini boy’s category on the 1st day of the 2nd J&K UT Sport Climbing Championship which commenced at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here today.
In mini girls category, Ananya of Kishtwar emerged winner, while 2nd and 3rd positions were secured by Sheikh Hafza of Pulwama and Saanvi Bandral of Udhampur respectively, besides in junior girls, Sukriti Kumari and Namrita Singh of Jammu district stood 1st and 2nd and Ulfat Farooq of Budgam remained 3rd, whereas in junior boys, Kashish Bharti and Yuvraj Kumar of Jammu district clinched top two medals, while bronze medal was won by Mohd Aasif Bhat of Pulwama.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by Raghav Langer, Divisional Commissioner Jammu in the presence of Zorawar Singh Jamwal, president; Ram Khajuria, senior vice-president; Sumit Khajuria, vice president and other office bearers of the Mountaineering Association of J&K alongwith chairman of the hosting School, Rahul Sharma.
Principal of Apple Kids International- Pre-School, Bantalab Arti Sharma were also present on the occasion along with Prof Suman Lata of GDC Parade Jammu and Prof Harpal Singh of GDC Katra.
The chief guest appreciated the achievements of the Association in sport climbing especially the emergence of J&K climbers on the international level and climbing of the Everest by many climbers of the Association.
