SRINAGAR, Jan 15: An 11-year-old boy from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has been selected to represent the region at the Second Asia Soft Tennis Championship, scheduled to be held in Ludhiana, Punjab, next month.
Mujatab Hassan, a resident of Vessu village, began playing soft tennis in 2022 and has since emerged as one of the youngest promising players from the Union Territory. Coming from a small hamlet, he has competed in several UT-level championships, won multiple titles and represented Jammu and Kashmir at national-level events. The upcoming tournament will be his first appearance at an international championship.
Mujatab and his family have credited the CRPF’s 46 Battalion for his progress, saying the force provided a soft tennis court and continuous support for his training. “We approached the CRPF and they built a court for me, which really helped,” Mujatab said, adding that his coaches and father played a key role in encouraging him. He also appealed to the district administration to develop a permanent court in the area.
His father said Mujatab has won “two to three UT-level championships” and participated in national competitions before being selected for the Asian event. “The CRPF has played a great role in shaping my child’s career by supporting him at every step,” he said, expressing hope for continued institutional support in the future.
