JAMMU, Apr 10: Physical Education and Chemistry Departments registered wins in their respective matches and sailed into the next stage of the ongoing cricket event, being organized during Inter-Department Tournament (Men) by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, at Varsity ground here today.
In the first match, Physical Education Department registered 60 runs victory over Business School and advanced to the next round of the tourney.
Batting first, Physical Education Department scored 151 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in 16 overs. Taqdeer Singh was the highest scorer with 68 runs including 10 boundaries, while Sunil and Vinay Manhas also chipped in 25 and 21 runs respectively.
For Business School side, Deepak Rana took one wicket.
In the second inning, Business School failed to chase the target and bundled out at 91 runs for all out in 15.3 overs. Deepak Rana made 29 runs, while Madhu Khullar and Imtiaz made 26 and 14 runs respectively.
For Physical Education side, Ranveet Singh and Rahul Sharma scalped 3 wickets each, while Suresh, Sunil Dutt and Vijay Mahajan took one wicket apiece.
In the second match, Chemistry Department thrashed Law School by 4 wickets and advanced to the next round.
Batting first, Law School made 128 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Wahid Ahmed made 56 runs including 8 boundaries, while Sahil Sharma and Irfan Ganai chipped in 22 and 12 runs each.
For Chemistry Department side, Atul Kumar, Amnesh Singh and Bhawani scalped 2 wickets each, while Mohd Javer and Deepanker pocketed one wicket each.
While batting, Chemistry Department chased the target in 18 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Mahir made 48 runs, while Atul also contributed 20 runs.
For Law School side, Sahil Sharma and Anchit took 2 wickets each.
The matches were officiated by Vijay Dogra, Suresh Singh and Pankaj Sasan as umpires, while, Sat Pal maintained the scorecards.
The tournament is being organised under the supervision of Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
