JAMMU, Mar 15: United Cricket Federation of India (UCFI) launched its operating office at Bathindi Morh, here today.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din was the chief guest on the occasion, who assured the organisation his full cooperation and support in its endeavour to promote sports and games in the State.
“The State Government would provide every type of assistance to the groups and NGOs which will come forward and help in promotion of the sports activities in the State,” the Sports Minister said.
Taj said that there was a dire need to popularize sports culture among the youth to help them grow as healthy and strong citizens, adding that the State has ample sports potential and the Government is taking initiatives to explore it.
Ranjeet Kalra, Chairman, Media Committee JKCA was the guest of honour, who also assured support to the organization which is an NGO meant for taping sports talent from grass-root level.
Safeer Ahmed, president of UCFI said that the NGO is going to start a talent hunt programme for cricket and other games like football, volleyball, hockey, kabaddi, boxing, tennis, lawn tennis and badminton from March 20, 2013 onwards.
“UCFI will provide free cricket kits to the youth and free coaching to talented and deserving players across the State,” Safeer added.
UCFI president also said that the NGO will organize a seminar on general awareness and personality development to help youth for intellectual development, besides organizing T20 Cricket Championship in the State soon.
According to the NGO, the main objective of the UCFI is to promote national integration, peace, unity and the dignity of sports and encourage sports talent in the State.
On the occasion, president UCFI announced the names of executive members which included Zafar Iqbal, vice president, Zaheer Choudhary, secretary, Touseef Raja, honourary secretary for business affairs, Farooq Ahmed Qadri, honourary joint secretary (accounts) and Sham Lal Saini, joint secretary (sports).
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Qammar-ud-Din Qammar, founder of Qammer Publishing and Educational Research Academy, AK Sevak, CEO of QPERA, Shahnawaz Choudhary, State president NSUI and Hardev Singh, Joint Secretary JKCA Jammu Wing.
