JAMMU, Feb 4: Directing its District Sports Officers to ensure preparing of atleast three sports disciplines in each school, the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), following the instructions of its Minister, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, has issued a fresh circular to all concerned, recently.
The circular also directed the Officers to ensure that every institution participates in the games at Inter-School, Inter-Zonal and District Level.
Sources said the DYSS has issued the circular after observing that there has been a meagre participation of players from Government as also from the schools in remote and hilly areas in the sports activities held in the State.
“Though, J&K bagged a good haul of 53 medals, with 9 gold, 17 silver and 27 bronze in National School Games this year, yet the time is ripe to promote sports and games in remote and hilly areas to increase the number of medals. To ensure participation of the players from these areas, the need of the hour was to issue circular and that is what the Department did,” said Jaipal Singh, Director Youth Services and Sports.
The experts believe that the implementation of the circular in letter and spirit would help the State in producing over 2000 school teams and would serve it a launching pad in hunting talent at the grass-root level.
It is pertinent to mention here that the athletes from rural and hilly areas possess extraordinary motor-ability and a good physique and more and more participation of these athletes in the sports activities, would help the State in yielding better results.
Sources said about 1000 sportspersons represent the State in National School Games every year, with paltry participation of the players from rural areas.
Experts believe that the games which depend more on strength and power, apart from skill, should be represented by the players from hilly areas and such a custom will only be developed by helping the players from Government schools and hilly areas to be part of the domestic level activities.
For that matter, the issuance of the circular has a great significance with regard to enhancement of the standard of sports and games in the State.
