STC, JKP, Army register victories on inaugural day

JAMMU, Dec 23: Senior State Basketball Championship was tipped off at the flood lit basketball arena of the MA stadium, here today.
On the opening day, defending champions of the last two years, STC warriors, runners up of the last year STC terriers and Jammu and Kashmir Police posted easy victories in their respective pool outings. Teams from Army, Police, Sports Authority of India besides Srinagar, Baramulla, Udhampur, Kathua and Jammu districts in men and women sections are participating in the three day championship.
12 matches were played on the first day. In the first match, STC terriers bt Jammu district men by 37-24, with winners leading 15-09 at the half time. 25 Mech (Army) bt Srinagar district men 62-43, with winners leading 28-15 at the half time. Jammu and Kashmir police bt Kathua district 61-20, with winners leading 25-16 at the half time. 25 Mech (army) bt Jammu district men 67-49 with winners leading 30-23 at the breather. Defending champions STC Warriors humbled Jammu men 88-34 in the last match of the day, with winners leading 66-21 at the half time and then leaving the field for their bench in most of the second half.
In women section, match between Srinagar district and STC turned out to be a cliffhanger with STC managing a one point victory 27-26. Jammu Women however had a cake walk over Kathua women.
The matches were officiated by Manoj Kumar, Harpreet Singh, Rajesh Bandral, Ranbir Singh, Abhiskek Gupta, Subham Sharma, Amanjot Singh, Jaskirat Singh and Rishab Sethi.
