Project Model School wins thriller to lift title trophy

JAMMU, Dec 31: Project Model School, Janipur, Jammu trounced Reasi Best Stars in thrilling summit clash to lift the title trophy of the Dr Vidushi Kapahi Memorial 50-over Cricket League, which concluded at Country Cricket Academy grounds at Gharota, here today.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Reasi Best Stars managed  to score a modest total of 131 runs. Kapil was the top scorer with 25 runs, while Neeraj and Jasbeer contributed 22 and 17 runs to the total respectively. Arastu Sharma of Project Model Hr. Secondary School was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 5 wickets of Kapil,  Sachin, Jasbeer, Sahil and Andu Singh cheaply. Ashim Nanda also took 3 wickets for the team.
In reply, Project Model Hr. Sec. School batsmen began the innings with a disaster, losing 4 wickets at a score of just 8 runs. However, the duo of  Rishab Sharma and Manav Singh consolidated the innings and scored 39 and 22 runs respectively.
The team needed 22 runs with one wicket in hand and it was the last pair of Abhinav Khajuria  and Arastu Sharma who scored the much needed runs to bring home the victory for Project Model Hr. Secondary School. For Reasi Best Stars, Kapil Sharma was the most successful bowler, scalping 3  wickets, while Sahil and Sachin  claimed 2 wickets each.
Arastu Sharma, who bagged 18 wickets in 5 matches was adjudged the best bowler of the tournament and also as the man of the match in the finals. Rishab Sharma was declared the best batsman, while Abhay Tandon as best all-rounder of the League.
Dr Urmil Kapahi was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Ramdayal Punia, a popular name in J&K cricket was the guest of honour.
Mr Ramdayal appreciated the green cricket ground and the well laid turfs that are providing the experience of real cricket to the budding cricketers of the state to hone their skill.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Senior State cricketer, Sandeep Singh, Nadeem, Ashwini Kumar and some parents of the cricketers.
The match was officiated by Kanav Sharma and Sahil Sharma as umpires
The tournament was held under the supervision of Vivek Sharma, former Ranji Trophy Player.
