Health Minister flags off trainees for Special Certificate Course under PM’s package

JAMMU, Oct 31: Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat flagged-off the trainees selected for eight-weeks Special Certificate Course in Sports under Prime Minister’s package at National Institute of Sports Patiala, Punjab.
The trainees were recommended by J&K State Sports Council. The flagged-off ceremony was held at MA Stadium, wherein Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Jammu, Rahil Gupta, Member, Sports Council, Manjeet Singh, Executive Engineer, J&K State Sports Council, Jammu, Rashid Ahmad, Ex-Member and International Fencer, Rajan Sharma, Divisional Sports Officer, J&K State Sports Council, Jammu, Ravi Singh, Manager, Ashok Singh, Manager, MA Stadium Jammu, Satish Gupta, Incharge Manager, Indoor Sports Complex, Jammu, Shaktish Chopra, lncharge Manager, Sports Stadium, Udhampur, Baljinder Pal Singh, lncharge Manager, Bana Singh Stadium, RS Pura, Special Assistant to Sports Minister Anil Sharma, all SAI, State coaches and instructors were present.
In the first phase, the J&K State Sports Council has so far recommended 29 outstanding players to undergo Special Certificate Course in different sports under Prime Minister’s package at NIS Patiala, Punjab. The games for which they have been deputed are Athletics, Boxing, Fencing, Gymnastics, Wushu, Weight-Lifting, Yoga, Table Tennis and Hockey.
In order to boost and encourage the spirit of players, the J&K State Sports Council is provided sports kits including track suits, shoes, t-shirts and socks.
The trainees will be specialized in their particular games and by completing this course they will impart the training to the budding players in future which will definitely help to raise the standard of sports in J&K State. They will also be able to assist technically to organize the championships in respective disciplines.
While speaking, Minister said that Government is paying special focus on promotion of sports activities in the State by way of creating sports related infrastructure, particularly in rural areas.
Bali said that all out efforts are being made to promote and revive sports activities and train the local players for national and international events in athletics, boxing and gymnastic.
He said to achieve this objective Sports Authority of India (SAI) has established two training centres one each at Srinagar and Jammu to boost the sports activities in the State.
Bali said that there is no dearth of talent in the State but the need of the hour is to harness the potential of the youth in a right direction.  He said that there are a large number of talented sportsmen in the State who can make a mark at national and international levels.
