SRINAGAR, Oct 1: Government has decided to construct a new Indoor Sports Complex with an estimated cost of Rs 14.09 crore within the premises of MAM Sports Stadium at Jammu for which the construction work shall be started soon.
This was Stated by Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib while chairing a high level meeting of officers of State Sports Council, here today.
Principal Secretary PDD and Youth Services and Sports Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Dilip Thusoo, renowned Architect Bajinder Singh and senior officers of the YSS and Sports Council attended the meeting.
The Minister said that the proposed Indoor Sports Complex shall be constructed on 10 kanals available land within the MAM Sports Stadium at an estimated cost of Rs 14.09 crore in two phases adding that the construction work shall be completed within two years. He said Rs 9.74 crore is being incurred in the Ist phase.
The meeting was informed that the proposed Indoor Sports Complex shall have all the modern facilities including multipurpose sports hall, gymnasium, fencing hall, judo-karate hall, indoor games and dormitories.
It was also given out in the meeting that in the Ist phase besides construction of building sports infrastructure shall be created in the complex while as all other allied works is proposed to be completed in IInd phase.
The Architect displayed the site plan through a power point presentation in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that due to the endeavors of the Government, sports culture in the State is gaining momentum adding that more and more youth are participating in the sports activities. He said that
M A M Sports Stadium, Jammu and Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar are also being upgraded and renovated to pave way for organizing major national level tournaments in the State.
Latter, the Minster witnessed the final T20 cricket match played between Amar Sngh Club and Kashmir Jymkhana at TRC Ground, Srinagar. The SDA Drabu Memorial Cricket Tournament is being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.
