RAMBAN, Apr 14: To continue the old tradition of organizing annual wrestling competitions at various places, Maitra Dangal Committee led by President Gopal Krishan Raina and other prominent members Krishan Lal, Ranjay Kumar, Mushtaq Mugal, Jagdeep singh, Surinder Singh, Rashid Mir, Mohd Rafiq, Ramesh Singh, Irfan Mugal and Gulam Bhat organized annual Maha Dangal at Ramleela ground here today.
In all, 30 bouts were played in the one day long dangal. The Ist malli main bout was fought between Ramesh of Haryana and Hafiz of Jammu in which Hafiz won the bout with cash prize of 9000 while runners-up got 6000. The second mali competition was fought between Jagroop and Amandeep in which Jagroop lifted the title with 5000 while his opponent got 3000.
Two competitions were fought for third mali bout between Quyoom and Karnail Singh, Sunil and Nazir Ahmed in which Quyoom and Sunil turned up winners with the cash prize of 3000. The runners up got 2000 each.
Lauding the efforts of Dangal Committee, MLA Ramban Neelam Kumar Langeh who was also the chief guest on the occasion said that dangals locally called Kushti help in preserving rich old traditions throughout the country and develop competitive spirit of youngsters.
Meanwhile, some ex-wrestlers namely Abdullah, Jaan Mohd, Sant Ram, Jamal Din, Kaka Ram and Shajaan were also felicitated by the MLA in the presence of Commandant IRP 9 Battalion, Rajesh Kumar, Dangal Committee president and members amid big mass gathering.
