RAJOURI, Sept 30: Gandhi Global Family J&K in association with United Nations (UNIC) New Delhi organized a match for special children in Rajouri District as a part of Gandhi-Mandela Cricket Series 2015.
The match was held at Police Lines Cricket Ground Rajouri in presence of DC Rajouri, Shabir Ahmed Bhat, SSP Rajouri, Dr Haseeb Mughal and Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Jabeen Khan. The match was played between Gujjar XI and Pahari XI. The event was presided by Mohd Bashir Shawl, Gandhi Global Family president District Rajouri.
Congratulating the organising team and the participating teams, SSP Rajouri Dr Mughal said that Gandhi Global Family is working remarkably under the leadership of Padmashri S P Varma, GGF Vice President.
He said volunteerism is the main aspect of such events which largely provides supports to underprivileged and needy.
Earlier, Jabeen Khan said that the main objective of such tournament is to encourage special children and to bring them in main stream. Chief Warden Civil Defence Rajouri, K K Langar fasten Indo-UN pin on SSP Rajouri Dr Mughal. He underscored the potential of such tournaments will provide vibrant platforms to expose hidden talents to excel in sports. DC Rajouri also spoke on the occasion and appreciated UN and GGF for their collective efforts to disseminate the message of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
He urged special children and gathering to follow the footsteps of these great legends.
Earlier, Imran Khan Secretary Organizing Committee Rajouri introduced both teams to dignitaries. He briefed that this unique tournament will give unprecedented opportunity to over 730 special children to play directly and over thousands of orphan children will get motivated through this initiative.
Later Pahari XI won the match by 21 runs and the wining team player Mehmood scored maiden century and was declared man of the match for his outstanding performance. Gold medals and silver medals were presented to winning Pahari XI and runners- up Gujjar XI players respectively by DC Rajouri.
DySPs Dr Kewal Krishan, Hameed Chaudhary and Iftihkar Qureshi were also present on the occasion.
