SRINAGAR, Aug 31: With an aim to promote sports and healthy lifestyle in the Valley, leading FM radio channel, 92.7 BIG FM, is organizing the first ever ‘international’ half marathon, here on September 13. The event titled ‘CCDU Big Kashmir Marathon’ revolves round the slogan “I am the change”. “The marathon provides people of Kashmir a platform to stand for social causes like: saving water, saving Dal lake, fighting drug abuse and keeping Srinagar city clean. It will also promote traffic awareness, respect for senior citizens and women etc”. “The run will be held in two categories. In the main 21-kilometer half marathon, serious professional runners would be competing involving runners from various countries apart from local and national level runners. In the second category which would be 5 kilometer dream run, thousands of runners are expected to take part that includes some of the known celebrities. The event carries prize money of around Rs 4-lakh rupees in both categories that includes for both men and women. The proposed route for the Run is from Hazratbal via Foreshore – Cheshmashai and back to Kashmir University Campus.
