JAMMU, Apr 1: Jammu District emerged overall winner while Udhampur District remained runners-up of the 7th J&K State Senior Indian Style Wrestling Championship, which concluded at Peer Baba Shah Akhara Domana, here today.
Championship was organized by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council.
Around 50 Wrestlers from all over the State took part in the championship and participating Districts and teams included Jammu, Rajouri, Samba, Reasi, Udhampur, Ramban and J&K Police. Wrestlers from Kashmir Division could not participate due to inclement weather condition.
Earlier, Shiv Kumar Sharma president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association and Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India presented welcome address, while vote of thanks was presented by Bansi Lal Tidyal, general secretary J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
The Championship was inaugurated by chief guest, Rajan Sharma, Sports Officer J&K State Sports Council in presence of Shiv Kumar Sharma and guest of honour, retired SP PR Sharma and retired JE Surinder Kumar.
Director Competition, NIS Wrestling Coach and Chairman Technical Committee J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Mulk Raj Sharma conducted the proceedings of the Championship.
The bouts were officiated by Kulbir Singh, Prem Kumar, Mohd. Fareed, Vijay Singh (Biju) and Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri).
Wrestlers who secured Ist, 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions in six weight categories were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 2000, Rs 1000, Rs 500 and Rs 500 along with mementoes, medals and certificates.
Final Result: 55 Kg, Chain Singh of Reasi (gold); Anil Chopra of Samba (silver); Sunil Choudhary of Samba (bronze) and Omkar Singh of Jammu (bronze).
61 Kg, Jagdev Singh of Reasi (gold); Teig Ali of Jammu (silver); Bashir Din of Jammu (bronze) and Arif Khan of Jammu (bronze).
67 Kg, Annayat Ali Jammu (gold); Beer Singh of Reasi (silver); Dillawar Singh of Samba (bronze) and Balwinder Singh of Jammu (bronze).
75 Kg, Gopal Sharma (gold); Salman Khan (silver); Surinder Singh of Jammu (bronze) and Balwan Singh of Reasi (bronze).
85 Kg, Ajay Kumar (gold) and Shakeel Khan (silver), while in 97 Kg, Jatinder Singh (gold) Arjun Singh (silver) and Varun Sharma (bronze).
