Div Com declares 1st Invitational Archery C’ship open

JAMMU, Feb 19: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu today inaugurated 1st Invitational Archery Championship at Mini Stadium Parade Ground, here today.
The 3-day event (Feb 19 to 21) has been organized by J&K Archery Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council and sponsored by HDFC Bank and State Bank of India.
The players from all over the State are participating in this mega sports event under Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior categories.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, who is also President of J&K Archery Association and IG Armed Mukesh Singh were guests of honour, besides S.P (HQ) Randhir Singh, Chairman J&K Olympic Association, Ashutosh Sharma, General Secretary J&K Archery Association, Sunil Sharma, senior officers from HDFC and SBI, several prominent sports persons, teachers and students in large number were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner said that the objective of organizing such events is to provide a platform to the budding sports persons to exhibit and nurture their hidden talent so that they can excel at national and international levels. He appreciated the efforts of J&K Archery Association for organizing the event.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Deputy Commissioner said that Archery is internationally recognized game and efforts are afoot to create appropriate infrastructure to flourish the sport in J&K State so as to promote sports and host significant events in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, IG Mukesh Singh said that teams from outside the state are also invited to make the event more purposeful and attractive, adding that such type of tournaments will provide opportunities to sports lovers to watch extraordinary performances of the outstanding sports persons besides encouraging their potential.
On the occasion cultural items were also presented by the students from GHSS, Jullaka Mohalla, GGHSS, Mubarak Mandi, GGHSS Shastri Nagar, SRML HSS, Police Public School Miran Sahib and Centre Basic School Purani Mandi which were highly applauded by the audience.
