JAMMU, May 19: The Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Jammu, today commenced the Inter-Zonal District Level competitions in Wrestling, Kabaddi, Badminton and Table Tennis for Boys under-14 and under-17 age groups at MA Stadium and University of Jammu.
The competitions are aimed at providing a platform for budding sportspersons to showcase their talent and compete at a higher level. The primary objective of the event is to identify and select talented players for upcoming competitions at higher stages. Around 500 players and students from different zones of District Jammu participated enthusiastically in the tournament.
The competitions were conducted under the supervision of departmental experts and technical officials including Sushma Kotwal, Rajesh Bandral, Amit Kalsi, Bandana Sharma, Jasdev Singh, Neeru Jabalia, Sanjay Khajuria, Gurdeepika Kour, Shifali, Rekha Ratra and Vikram Dogra.
In Wrestling, Ashok Mehra of RS Pura secured first position in the 45 kg category, while Vishal Singh of Balwal clinched top honours in 48 kg. Arun Singh of Balwal emerged winner in the 51 kg category, while Sourav of RS Pura won in 55 kg. DeeraJ Singh Chib secured first place in 60 kg, Ansh Dhau of Khour triumphed in 65 kg and Natik Sharma of Jourian claimed first position in the 71 kg category.
In Kabaddi U-17, Jammu defeated Dansal, Bishnah beat Bhalwal and Jourian registered victory over Satwari. In the U-14 category, Khour defeated RS Pura, Gandhi Nagar outplayed Marh and Miran Sahib beat Arnia.
In Table Tennis U-14 first semi-final, Eshan of Jammu defeated Laksh of Gandhi Nagar by 2-0, in second semi-final Aahan of Jammu beat Samardev of Gandhi Nagar by 3-1 sets, while in the final Eshan of Jammu beat Aahan by 3-1.
In the U-17 final, Pranwat of Gandhi Nagar defeated Satyam of Jammu by 3-2 sets. Results of Yoga, Badminton and remaining Table Tennis events will be declared tomorrow.
