09MENORCA(SPAIN), April 8: 10 year old Chess prodigy Aarit Kapil on Wednesday came up with another exceptional performance as he beat Kazybek Nogerbek, the 2024 FIDE World Junior Champion here at the ongoing Menorca International Chess Open tournament.
The Menorca International Chess Open tournament is being played here from April 7-12, 2026.
Aarit, currently a Fide Master with 2304 rating points won the match in 48 moves while playing with white peices.
Aarit who reached 3000 blitz on Chess.com this February, made national headlines as a 9-year-old in
when he held World Champion Magnus Carlsen to a draw in an online blitz game at the ‘Early Titled Tuesday’ chess tournament on June 24, 2025.
In January this year he bagged the Delhi State Under 15 Chess Championship 2026 crowd.
Aarit as a nine year old in 2025, won the national Under 11 Open Chess Championship in a dominating fashion.
He is also the third youngest player globally to defeat a grandmaster in classical chess when he won against Raset Ziatdinov of the US in December 2024.
