JAMMU, Mar 30: In a remarkable rise from humble beginnings, 27-year-old pacer Brijesh Sharma from Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir, made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals, dismissing Chennai Super Kings’ Kartik Sharma LBW in the 11th over at Barsapara Stadium. Sharma bowled three overs, conceding just 17 runs and taking one crucial wicket, showcasing composure and skill under pressure.
Acquired by RR for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction after a stellar Bengal Pro T20 League performance—11 wickets in seven matches—Sharma has rapidly emerged as a promising talent from India’s northern frontiers. Born to daily wager Kapoor Chand Sharma, Brijesh overcame financial and logistical challenges to pursue cricket, representing Jammu & Kashmir at Under-19 and Under-25 levels.
Sharma’s IPL debut not only marks a personal milestone but also inspires young cricketers from J&K, following the path of regional icons Parvez Rasool, Umran Malik and Auqib Nabi. His journey embodies perseverance, dedication and hope, proving that talent from remote corners can shine on the national and international stage.
