JAMMU, Feb 1: In a vibrant celebration of fitness, youth energy and sporting spirit, the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS), Jammu & Kashmir organized the inaugural Mini Marathon 1.0 – Run with the Rising Sun, which was flagged off from the University of Jammu today.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 1000 male and female athletes from across the Union Territory, reflecting the growing sports culture and commitment towards a healthy lifestyle. The marathon featured three competitive categories – 3 km, 5 km and 10 km, with scenic routes passing through the historic City of Temples and culminating at the Jammu University campus.
Director General Youth Services & Sports, Anuradha Gupta, in her welcome address, highlighted the importance of fitness, discipline and positive youth engagement, congratulating all participants for being part of the initiative. The event was formally flagged off by the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, who motivated the athletes and applauded their spirited participation.
In the 3 km category, Anjali Devi secured first position, followed by Sumit Singh with second place and Darshan Lal claiming 3rd.
In the 5 km (Male) category, Puran Chand clinched first position, Vijay Sumbaria finished second, while Rohit Singh secured third place. In the 5 km (Female) category, Pooja Dano emerged victorious, with Anishka Sharma finishing second and Rupanshi Sharma third.
In the 10 km (Male) race, Sourabh Sharma bagged first position, followed by Mohit Sharma in second place. In the 10 km (Female) category, Janvi Parihar secured first position, Gori Devi finished second and Hitanshi Yadav claimed third place.
All participants were awarded participation medals, while winners received special medals of honour, personally presented by the Minister. Security and arrangements were supervised by Dr Ajay Sharma, SP South. Refreshments and breakfast were provided to all athletes and dignitaries after the event.
