Nirmal becomes 1st National Starter from J&K

JAMMU, Jan 19: In a historic achievement for Jammu & Kashmir, Nirmal Singh, former ace athlete and Lecturer in Physical Education at GGHS Bishnah, has become the first-ever National Starter from the Union Territory.
Singh qualified the rigorous national-level examination conducted by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NSNIS), Patiala, assessed by Chief Referee and International Starter Alan Bell from England. The test included practical demonstrations and theoretical evaluations, measuring technical expertise in athletics officiating.
Already a State Awardee and National Technical Official, Singh has officiated at major international events, including World and Asian Athletics Meets. His accomplishment brings immense glory to the Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K and inspires athletes, coaches and officials’ across the region, highlighting the growing potential of the Union Territory’s sporting talent.
