LEH, Jan 13: The Union Territory of Ladakh conducted team selection trials for the upcoming Khelo India Winter Games 2026 at NDS Ice Hockey Stadium, here today. The trials were held for both men’s and women’s ice hockey teams to finalize UT Ladakh’s contingent for the prestigious national winter sports event.
Earlier, the Kargil District ice hockey trials were conducted on January 11 at the KSC Sports Stadium, Bemathang, Kargil. Both the Leh and Kargil district trials were organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, ensuring wide participation and fair selection of talent from across the region.
The Khelo India Winter Games 2026 are being organised through a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sports Authority of India (SAI), UT Administration of Ladakh and the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh. Ladakh has been hosting the Winter Games since 2024, strengthening its position as India’s premier winter sports destination.
The games are scheduled to be held from January 20 to 26, 2026, across multiple venues in Leh, including NDS Ice Hockey Stadium, Ladakh Scouts Ice Rink, ITBP Ice Rink and Gupuks Pond. Besides ice hockey, competitions will feature speed skating in short-track and long-track formats. Notably, figure skating has been included for the first time, adding a new dimension to the Winter Games in Leh.
