JAMMU, Jan 10: Minerva Public School, Barnoti and Nav Adarsh Higher Secondary School, Kathua, jointly organized a one-day academic workshop on “Competency-Based Assessment” at Barnoti to help teachers adapt to the changes introduced under NEP 2020.
The workshop emphasized modern assessment practices that move beyond rote learning, focusing on students’ conceptual clarity, critical thinking, creativity and real-life problem-solving skills. Teachers from both schools participated actively in the sessions.
Prabodh Sharma, an expert and former faculty of Rashtriya Military Schools, explained the concept and practical classroom implementation of competency-based assessment, highlighting that NEP 2020 emphasizes learning outcomes over marks to build confidence and life skills among students.
Sheetal Sharma, Secretary of Minerva Educational Trust, appreciated the initiative and encouraged teachers to update their teaching and assessment strategies, while Riti Prakash Singh, Principal of Nav Adarsh HSS, lauded the collaborative effort and stressed the importance of professional development programs in improving teaching standards.
