JAMMU, Jan 9: Skipper Shweta Rana and pace sensation Adeeba Tariq guided Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) to a convincing 4-wicket win over Saurashtra in the U-15 Women’s One-Day Trophy at the Lady Amritbai Daga College Ground here.
Chasing a challenging target of 160, J&K’s young batters rose to the occasion under Rana’s calm leadership. The captain played a composed innings of 68 not out off 75 balls, including 12 boundaries, steering the team to victory in 26.3 overs while losing six wickets. Vital contributions came from Vitasta Kitchlu (20), Dhanya Sharma (15), Sonakshi Sharma (15) and Mokshita Kotwal (12), ensuring a steady progression towards the target.
Electing to bowl first, J&K struck early and consistently. Adeeba Tariq emerged as the standout performer with 4 wickets for 40 runs in a fiery six-over spell. Sonakshi Sharma claimed 2 wickets, while Shweta Rana, Manvi Sharma and Dhanya Sharma chipped in with one wicket each, keeping Saurashtra to 160 in 35 overs. Riti Parekh top-scored for Saurashtra with 53, supported by Bhavya Nagvadiya (23), Khushi Dhapa (20), Jiya Jadav (14) and Vedanshi Thakkar (13).
Under the guidance of Head Coach Amit Pal Singh, the J&K squad showcased skill, strategy, and teamwork. Member Administration JKCA, Brig Anil Gupta, lauded the team’s performance.
With momentum on their side, J&K will face Odisha in their final league match tomorrow, aiming for a win to advance into the knockout stages. The victory underscores the rising talent and determination of J&K’s U-15 girls, signalling a bright future for women’s cricket in the region.
