JAMMU, Jan 3: Uttar Pradesh produced a dominating all-round performance to defeat Jammu & Kashmir by 58 runs in the Group B, Round 5 clash of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, held at the Niranjan Shah Stadium C, Rajkot, today.
Batting first, Uttar Pradesh posted a commanding 322/5 in 48 overs, thanks to some explosive late-order hitting. Sameer Rizvi starred with a blazing 80 off 45 balls, while Prashant Veer contributed a quick 37 off 18 balls, providing the team with a strong finish. Top-order batsmen Dhruv Chand Jurel (55), Priyam Garg (54) and skipper Rinku Singh (41) also played crucial innings, ensuring a formidable total.
In reply, Jammu & Kashmir started their chase steadily but lost wickets at regular intervals, which pushed up the required run rate. Yawer Hassan was the standout performer for J&K, scoring a fighting 85 not out off 78 balls, while Auqib Nabi (30) and M Ashwin (16*) added late momentum. Despite their efforts, the team could manage 264/8 in 48 overs, falling short by 58 runs.
Earlier, J&K’s innings had contributions from Qamran Iqbal (32), Shubham Khajuria (60) and Rydham (15), but disciplined bowling from UP ensured regular breakthroughs. Kuldeep Singh Yadav, Zeeshan Ansari, and Prashant Veer were key wicket-takers, restricting the opposition below the target.
