JAMMU, Nov 25: Shreya Gupta, an ace fencer from Jammu and Kashmir, secured a silver medal in the Sabre fencing event at the Khelo India University Games, held from November 24-28. Representing Guru Nanak Dev University, Gupta narrowly missed out on the gold, losing by 15-13 to Aakhri Sharma of Haryana in a closely contested final.
Gupta’s impressive performance reaffirms her place as one of India’s top young fencing talents. Earlier this year, she represented India at the World University Games, gaining valuable international experience. She also claimed an individual gold in the senior category at the National Championship in New Delhi just last week.
Her achievement has garnered widespread praise from the people of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as sports bodies in the region. Gupta’s silver medal further solidifies her growing reputation in the world of fencing.
