JAMMU, Oct 5: The third edition of the Jammu Half Marathon – Run for Health 3.0 was successfully organised today by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI FLO) JKL) in collaboration with J&K Police, under the theme “Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs.”
The event, flagged off by IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti at Gulshan Ground, witnessed overwhelming participation, with over 700 registered runners and nearly 200 on-spot entries across four race categories-21 km, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km. The marathon aimed to raise awareness about drug abuse and promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
Aarti Chowdhary, Chairperson FICCI FLO JKL, emphasized the importance of channelizing youth energy into positive pursuits like sports, fitness and community engagement. She said such initiatives help inspire collective action against substance abuse and foster a drug-free society. This was the first time FICCI FLO collaborated with J&K Police for the marathon.
During the event, Jammu Police showcased their ongoing efforts in combating the drug menace. From 2020 to 2024, 1329 FIRs were registered under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of 1894 accused and seizure of 185 kg of heroin, along with other psychotropic substances. In 2024 alone (up to September 30), 163 FIRs were filed, 228 persons arrested, and 3.5 kg heroin seized.
Officers who displayed exceptional commitment in anti-drug operations were felicitated during the closing ceremony. Proceeds from the marathon will be donated to the Jammu Police Drug De-addiction Centre at Channi Himmat.
The south zone team of Jammu Police played a pivotal role in organising coordinating and facilitating the event showing community outreach and engagement of industry, civil society and J&K Police for a greater social cause.
