JAMMU, Sept 23: The annual Dangal was organized with great enthusiasm at the revered shrine of Pir Baba Faiz Bakhsh Bukhari in Gurha Brahmana (Akhnoor), attracting large crowds and showcasing the participation of renowned national and international wrestlers.
The event was graced by MLA Akhnoor, Mohan Lal, who attended as the chief guest. The highlight of the tournament was the main bout (Ist Malia) carrying a prize of Rs 1.50 lakh, contested between Chhota Saddam of Punjab and Hamid from Iran, with Hamid emerging victorious in a closely fought contest.
The second bout, also worth Rs 1.50 lakh, saw Abhinayak of Uttar Pradesh defeating Chirag from Delhi in an exciting clash. The third major contest witnessed Lovepreet of Khanna overpowering Ballu from Maharashtra to clinch the Rs 1 lakh prize.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Mohan Lal emphasized that wrestling tournaments are not merely sporting events but an inseparable part of cultural and traditional heritage. He said such events foster unity, brotherhood, and provide youth with a positive direction.
The day-long wrestling festival featured over 100 bouts. The grand event was organized under the leadership of Chairman Yashpal Sharma, with active involvement from Sarpanch Shamsher Singh, Ravi Singh, Ratan Lal Sharma, Parveen Sharma, Ammu Chib, Shunna Chib, and several others.
