Srinagar, Sept 15: The 4th Canon C.E. Tyndale-Biscoe Invitational Football Tournament, organised by the Tyndale-Biscoe and Mallinson Society (TBMS), commenced today.
The opening ceremony featured a cultural program and the unveiling of the tournament trophy.
Organisers said 18 schools from across the Valley are participating in the event.
“The game of football, introduced in Kashmir by the founder of Biscoe School, has over the years grown into one of the Valley’s most popular sports,” TBMS said.
Director, School Education Kashmir, Dr. G.N. Itoo, was the chief guest, while Additional Commissioner in the office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Akramullah Tak, was the guest of honour.
Among others present were Director TBMS Rahul Rex Kaul, Principal TBMS Mabel Yonzon, Principal TKVS Roy Mathews, Headmaster TBMS Tangmarg Aftab Shah, Vice President Diocese of Amritsar Rev. Shamsher Lal Masih, Genius Career Consultancy MD Shabir Hussain Beigh, Dr. Parveen, Registrar TBMS Seema Nazir, besides heads of participating schools.
Welcoming the guests, Principal Yonzon said the teams represented the “future of football.”
In the opening match, St. Joseph’s School, Baramulla, defeated DPS Budgam by 6-5 in a tie-breaker after a 1-1 draw. Owais Irshad of St. Joseph’s was named Man of the Match.
In the second match, Doon School edged past New Bonvivant School by 6-5 in a tie-breaker after both sides scored once in regulation time. Hadi Amin of Doon was declared Man of the Match.
