Shivani shines in Uttarakhand Cup; bags silver, bronze

JAMMU, Sept 7: Ace sport climber of Jammu and Kashmir, Shivani Charak once again brought laurels to the Union Territory by clinching a Silver medal in Speed Climbing and a Bronze medal in Lead Climbing in Women’s category of the prestigious Uttarakhand Cup, a national ranking sport climbing competition held at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi.
In a highly competitive Lead Climbing event, three international climbers-Pratiksha Arun of Bengaluru, Ritika Ravat of Delhi and Shivani Charak-topped the wall to enter the final. However, in the final round, Shivani reached the 28th hold, finishing behind Pratiksha’s 32 and Ritika’s 29, securing the third position.
In the Speed Climbing final, Shivani faced international speed climber Shivpreet of Punjab. Despite generating impressive speed and giving a tough fight, Shivani settled for second place, earning a Silver medal. She was awarded a cash prize of Rs 12,000 for her performance.
The event was organized by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi, in collaboration with the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. Shivani, the first and only female athlete from J&K to participate in the Asian Games, has been training in Bengaluru and is likely to be among the probables for the next Asian Games in Japan.
Meanwhile, Zorawar Singh Jamwal (President), Sumit Khajuria (Vice President) and Shawetica Khajuria (General Secretary) of the Mountaineering Association of J&K congratulated Shivani on her outstanding performance and assured full support for her future training and competitions.
