JAMMU, Sept 6: The University of Jammu (JU XI) cricket team scripted a spirited 19-run victory over Media XI Cricket Club in a friendly T20 match held at the University grounds, showcasing grit, flair and discipline.
Batting first, JU XI posted 161/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Skipper Raj Kumar Bakshi led from the front with a fluent 40 off 28 balls, supported by Niranjan Singh’s composed 38. A late surge from Sandeep Bakshi helped push the score past 160.
For Media XI, Yash Khajuria bowled economically, taking 2/17, while Raman claimed 2/25. Subash Singh Sumbria and skipper Rahul Khatri took one wicket each.
In response, Media XI managed 142/9, despite a quick 29 off 16 balls from Asif Wani. Rajesh Khatri starred with the ball for JU XI, taking 3/16, while Shantul Raina and Raj Kumar Bakshi applied further pressure.
After the match, Raj Kumar Bakshi highlighted the importance of fitness and discipline in cricket and life. Dawood Iqbal Baba, Director Sports, University of Jammu, applauded the initiative and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to spreading the message: “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Life.”
