JAMMU, Aug 23: A Veteran Badminton Tournament was organised by Padam Dev Singh Badminton Club in memory of former MLA Choudhary Piara Singh at Badminton Indoor Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
The event was inaugurated by MLA Jammu East, Yudhvir Sethi. Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), School Education Department, J&K, graced the occasion as the special guest.
The opening ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from veteran players and guests from across the region including Akhnoor, RS Pura, Kathua and Udhampur. In the 120+ age group, Romesh Sharma-Narinder Khajuria and Vivek Slathia-Joginder Sharma reached the semifinals. Also making it to the semifinals were Rakesh-Amit Singh and Ram Kumar Dubey-Ashok Kumar.
The men’s and women’s singles semifinals, along with the 90+ category and all finals, will be played tomorrow. Vikram Randhawa, MLA from Bahu Assembly Constituency, will grace the closing ceremony as chief guest.
